Volunteer Your Time!

We are always looking for new volunteers.  If you are part of an organization or simply a concerned citizen interested in working to improve the community's understanding of issues surrounding child abuse and neglect prevention -- we would love to have you join our Council.  For more information on becoming a volunteer and/or Board Member, please contact Cindy at either crcpc@hotmail.com or (989) 344-9335.

Participate in Events to Create Awareness!

The Crawford/Roscommon Child Protection Council is active in our local communities and at state-wide events.  Our volunteers are welcome to attend these events as well.  In April, 2011, we were in Lansing, MI at the state capitol to create awareness for Child Abuse Prevention Month.  A rally at the steps of the Capitol Building with legislators and executive management from the Michigan Children's Trust Fund present ws held to inform those in attendance about current events in the field of prevention.  While important at all times, this year with our state electing 80 new legislators and a new governor, it was a critical year to make sure we get our message across to all on the importance of prevention services to address child abuse/neglect.

The symbol for April prevention activities has become the "Purple Pinwheel".  A reminder of a simpler time, the traditional children's pinwheel toy is the current symbol of protecting our children.  A "Pinwheel Garden" was planted in front of the Capitol Building following the rally and we were all encouraged to return to our own communities and plant local "Pinwheel Gardens" to show solidarity throughout the state in our commitment to protecting our children.

Make a Donation!

As a charitable, nonprofit organization with 502(c)3 status from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the Crawford/Roscommon Child Protection Council is able to accept donations from the public and private sectors.  If you would like to make a cash donation, we would greatly appreciate your support.  Each year, we are required by the terms of our funding from the State of Michigan to raise a minimum of $1100 in cash beyond what the state provides.  We typically do this through small grants and donations.

Your contribution to the Council is tax-deductible, but be sure to ask an accountant for specific information on this subject based on your specific tax situation.  Checks should be made payable to:  Crawford/Roscommon Child Protection Council.  They can be mailed to:  P.O. Box 834; Grayling, MI  49738.

Write a Letter or Sign a Petition!

If you're interested in becoming a voice for the children and serving as an advocate, you may be interested in writing letters to decision-makers or starting on-line petitions in support of children's causes and programs.  Advocates are powerful voices that tell our newspapers, media, elected officials and communities-at-large how current events, funding decisions, and laws will negatively or positively impact children.  You'll find some suggested links below to contact local newspapers, TV stations, and local/state elected officials.  If you don't own a computer in your home, all public libraries offer them for use.
